A representative of CAIR-MI yesterday discussed concerns of the American Muslim community at the office of Congressman Hansen Clarke (D-MI) in Washington, DC regarding a third hearing to be held by Congressman Peter King (R-NY) next week on radicalization of American Muslims.
King’s stated purpose for the upcoming hearing regards the recruitment of Somali-American youth by the designated terrorist group Al-Shabaab to join fighters in Somalia. King continues to falsely assert that American Muslims do not report extremist plots and that American Muslim leaders do not cooperate with law enforcement despite empirical data and statements to the contrary by Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano and US Attorney General Eric Holder.
“We believe that Congressional hearings should confront all potential threats to the homeland, not simply focusing on Muslims while rhetorically indicting 1.6 million fellow Americans,” said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid.
Walid noted that the most recent statistics on domestic terrorism by the FBI illustrated that 94 percent of planned and executed terrorist attacks in America were committed by people other than Muslims.
Congressman Clarke serves on the House Homeland Security Committee and was present at the first two hearings facilitated by King.
